Results of a Mahadasha

Everyone at anytime is running a mahadasha, or major period of a planet and may be about to start a mahadasha of another planet. It is not easy to judge what results a coming mahadasha can bestow a native. First let us look at the total time periods of all mahadashas:

Planet Mahadasha Period
Sun 6 years
Moon  10 years
Mars 7 years
Rahu 18 years
Jupiter 16 years
Saturn 19  years
Mercury 17 years
Ketu 7 years
Venus 20 years

When a child is born, she is actually running a mahadasha of some planet. A mahadasha is further divided into antadasha (sub-period) and pratyantardasha(sub-sub period) periods of planets. While judging a mahadasha we must consider the following:
1. The position of planet (house and rashi) in D1.
2. The position of planet (house and rashi) in D9 (helps in understanding judging the happiness/satisfaction from one's partner and spiritual propensity)
3. The position of planet (house and rashi) in D10 (when judging the career during the mahadasha)
4. The position of planet (house and rashi) in D3 (when judging happiness/satisfaction in general.
5. The position of planet (house and rashi) in D60 (the chart of previous life and sanchit karma)
6. Whether the planet is friendly to ascendant or not.
7. One thing could be very important is Mahadasha of Naksthatra ascendant. If you are going through or started the mahadasha of planet of nakshatra lord under which you are born, then it could be a life changing mahadasha. It can bring in the 'Self-Realization' phase in your life. For example someone born under ascendant of Sun (Leo) might have ascendant nakshatra as Magha (ruled by Ketu), Purva Phalguni (ruled by Venus) or Uttara Phalguni (Sun). Hence, if the person has Leo ascendant and Magha as ascendant Nakshtra, then the mahadasha of Ketu will be mahadasha of greater change in life, leadering to movement towards higher goals indicated by Ketu, such as emancipation.

Obviously, if a planet is in its highest position in any of the charts then it will give better than average results. But, it may happen that a planet is exalted in D1, but debilitated in D9 or D60. Then it means that the mahadasha will not give that good results.I had read that in general a mahadasha lord if enemy of ascendant lord will give bad results, specially if badly placed. But, I have witnessed that if the same planet was well placed in D60 (in center in own house) gave good results. Also, the planets give results as per their intrinsic nature.
1. Jupiter, Venus, brigher Moon (Moon in shukla paksha) and non-afflicted Mercury being a beneficial planets, will give good results as per their placement.
2. Sun, Saturn, Mars, Rahu, Ketu tend to give some struggles to native due to their intrinsic malefic character.
Also, if any of these planets are with one or more benefics, their strength to give good results increases. On the similar lines, if the mahadasha lord is with a malefic planet, its tendency to give bad results/struggles increases. If a planet is giving a Rajyoga (Neecha bhang rajyoga, Viparit rajyoga, Mahalakshmi yog etc.) in D1 chart, and is present in D10 chart with a malefic in 10th house, the native is destined to rise further in her career, but after a lot of struggle.

The struggle is alleviated, if the planet is with a benefic. Also, the planet's location gives its major results. Examples:
1. A mahadasha of planet located in 12th house will give results with respect to the 12th house significations and the houses the planet rules. Mars in Leo for Virgo ascendant, will give results with respect significations of 12th house, 3rd house (Scorpio) and 8th house (Aries).
2. Mars in Virgo for Aquarius ascendant will give results primarily with respect to 8th house, 3rd house (Aries) and 10th house (Scorpio).

Again, while judging we must consider associations, aspects and exchanges and various divisional charts when judging the mahadasha.A small note on how to judge an antardasha - In general consider, the location of antardasha planet with respect to mahadasha planet. If the antardasha planet is in center (located 1,4,7,10) or kona (1,5,9) with respect to mahadasha planet, then the antardasha planet will give good results. While on the whole mahadasha lord will keep focus on houses it rules and where it sits, for smaller periods (antardasha planet) the focus will accordingly shift to houses rules by antardasha planets and where they sit.For more details on houses see the following links.

The links can tell where your focus is currently depending on mahadasha and antardasha:

Accidents...3

Following factors can also indicate an accident in a chart:

1. If Ketu is debilitated it can give heart related ailment. Ketu is debilitated in Gemini (some texts say it is Taurus).
2. If Jupiter is with Mars in Taurus, Gemini, Virgo or Libra, it can cause a heart related operation.
3. Saturn, Mars and Ketu when conjunct in 8th house can give an accident on the road while traveling.
4. Moon and Rahu in Gemini, Libra or Aquarius under the aspect of Mars can cause problem when the native is in air.
5. The master of 8th, Rahu in 12th house under aspect of Mars may cause accident in air.

All the above combinations that have been described above must be considered after noting the aspect/conjunction of benefics/yogkarakas/friends with the ascendant lord and/or the combination described.

Accidents...1

Vedic Astrology can be used as a tool for knowing the forthcoming events of life. Most of us wait for good events in our life - School, Graduation, Marriage, Kids etc. But life is not always about happiness. Due to past deeds (Karma from the previous lives) diseases and accidents can happen. Again, I must reiterate that all the events of life must be judged based on a holistic view of all planets in a chart and the mahadasa, antardasa of planets involved. I have already mentioned some indications of good health, bad health and recovering from bad health in my previous posts. So, from today I will write on how to look for accidents in a chart.

Knowing about accidents is important because if we are aware of an upcoming event we can be prepared for that. Just imagine that you are not aware of today's weather. You go out and see that bright sun is out, taking toll of your skin. If you were aware of that fact earlier on, you can take an umbrella with you and save yourself from the severity of weather. Hence the pre-knowledge is important. It must not be used for causing the fear, but for getting in all precautions in time.

For judging accidents in a chart, the most important houses are house 6 and house 8. Their significations are stated in the following posts:

Whenever the master of 6th house and 8th house are under some relation with a malefic (Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu, Waning Moon), the accidents are inevitable to some extent.

All the above combinations that have been described above must be considered after noting the aspect/conjunction of benefics/yogkarakas/friends with the ascendant lord and/or the combination described.

To be continued...

The Houses of your Vedic chart...House 6

The sixth house is the 6th from ascendant when counted anti-clockwise. If the master of 6th house is present in exaltation or in own house, specially if in center (1,4,7,10) or in trine (1,5,9), it will give native good results. The 5th house is also called the Shatru Sthan (the house of enemies/diseases). In order to be free of diseases and enemies the lord of this house, must be, as compared to that of ascendant Lord, be less strong.

The 6th house mostly signifies the following:

1. Enemies
2. Diseases, wounds, injuries, operations
3. Service, debts and litigation
4. Struggle in general, obstacles, disagreements, divorces.
5. Small intestine, appendix, kidney, upper ureter
6. Mental agony, phlegmatic, poison
7. Eye disease
8. Tuber culosis and eruptive diseases (such as small pox) and tumors, ulcers and inflammations
9. Mother's younger brother

During the dasa, antardasa of the Lord of 6th house, you will see the above significations of 6th house, taking prominence in your life. If a malefic such as Mars, Sun, Saturn or Rahu is present in 6th house, the native will defeat his enemies easily. If Rahu is present, the native will have stomach related problems.

Pitru Dosh and Pitru Paksha

Before you start reading this please note that Respected Mr. Pawan Sinha is organizing a Mahayagya for Pitru Dish Nivaran in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh on Oct 15, 2012. Please use this opportunity:

I thought that I will put one more post on Pitru Dosh. The reason is that Pitru Paksha is starting on September 30, hence I just wanted to put forth the idea that it is the best period when we can offer goodies to our ancestors!

Following can be undertaken during the period of 15 days following September 30:

1. The chanting of Vishnu Sahasranaam must be done in your home, daily. If chanting is not possible then play it on CD player/mobile phone etc. so that all can listen to it. Do this daily 2 times, morning and evening.

2. Visit the temples which are beside the river Ganga. For example you can visit Bithoor (north of Kanpur city in Uttar Pradesh) and offer obeisances (tarpan) to your ancestors. Give away/offer as much as possible to the needy and poor people in the name of your ancestors. Distribute the water of river Ganga to your friends/relatives and acquaintances.

3. Carry out the ritual mentioned in the below post:

4. Chant the following 2 mantras daily 108 times made of turmeric (haldi) beads and if possible 5*108 times, facing South:

First remember your ancestors, whoever you remember and also others.

Om Graam Greem Graum Sah Guruve Namah

And

Om Pitra Devaya Namah Om Pitra Shanti Bhavah

5. Offering tarpan is extremely important during this period. Please do that.

c) Hold a turmeric piece in their left hands with fist closed tight.
d) Remember your ancestors.
e) Chant the following mantra 5*108 times:
Om Graam Greem Graum Sah Guruve Namah

5. At the end of the activity, offer obeisances to your ancestors. Offer yellow clothes and yellow sweets to temple.

6. One more activity that Pawan Sinha had once mentioned was - to offer tarpan to ancestors in Badrinath (one of the abodes of Lord Shree MahaVishnu in the Himalayas). He mentioned by doing that all our ancestors receive emancipation.

FYI - In 2012, the Pitra Paksha is starting on Sept 30.

Pitru Dosh...4

In the following posts I will enlist some remedies for Pitru Dosh.

1. The most widely accepted special ritual or puja for Pitru Dosh is NARAYAN BALI PUJA. This puja is performed only at few prescribed places such as (1) Tryambakeshwar in Nasik, (2) Chandod near Dabhoi near Vadodara in Gujarat, (3) Kala Hasti in Tamil Nadu and (4) Haridwar. It is very important to note that the puja have to be performed at the mentioned places.

2. On any Somwati Amavasya, when the Amavasya is falling on Monday, go to Pipal tree. Offer one Yagyopavit to the tree and second Yagyopavit to Lord Vishnu. Then do 108 Parikrama ( move in circles around ) of tree. While doing Parikrama, chant the mantra Om Namo Bhaagvate Vaasudevaay and offer a sweet to the tree with each Parikrama. After finishing the Parikrama, again pray to the Pipal tree and Lord Vishnu and ask forgiveness.

3.   For this remedy, One Madhuroopen Rudraksh is required. This puja is done only in Pitru Paksh (in 2012 it starts on Sunday September 16). Put the Rudraksh in a plate. Start chanting Om Namah Shivay mantra for 108 times while continuously looking at the Rudraksh. Perform this process for all the 14 days of Pitru Paksh. On the Sarva Pitru Amavasya, wear the Rudraksh around the neck using black thread. This will get rid of Pitru Dosh.

Pitru Dosh...1

Before you start reading this please note that Respected Mr. Pawan Sinha is organizing a Mahayagya for Pitru Dish Nivaran in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh on Oct 15, 2012. Please use this opportunity:

http://paavanchintandhara.com/pitradosh_nivaran_mahayagh.php

I wanted to write on something else, but then I realized that this is one of the topics on which respected Mr. Pawan Sinha speaks a lot and often. So,  how does this occur in family and what are the ramifications of it, if present in one's chart - I will try to explore this in this series. I will also try to reiterate some of the remedies that I remember from Pawan Sinha'S lectures. I will also add some which I have read from other sources.

How does this occur in one's family?

There are many ways by which Pitru Dosh can occur. According to general information from various Puranas, Pitru Dosh occurs when the soul of our ancestors and departed forefathers does not get peace ( shanti ) due to any of the following reasons:

1. Bad deeds ( bad karma ) of our ancestors in earlier life, knowingly or unknowingly, are embarrassing their souls,
2. Bad deeds ( bad karma ) of children, knowingly or unknowingly, are embarrassing the soul of ancestors,
3. Lack of fulfillments of parental desires of our ancestors,
4. A sudden and unnatural death of any relative in early age,
5. If someone fails to remember and honour the ancestors properly,
6. If certain wishes are remained attached with the soul of the ancestors, etc.
7. If someone elder in the family or someone of the status of a Guru is insulted and thrown out of the home, the Pitru Dosh creeps in.
8. If the location of kitchen is under the stairs, and cooking has been practiced under it for years, Pitru Dosh occurs.
9. If there is an open waste-water outlet, which has an opening (not necessarily from which water goes in, it's just that waste water is visible) within the living room, and it has remained like that for years, Pitru Dosh happens.
10. Urinating on trees, specially Peepal, Banyan and Neem trees also sows the seeds of Pitru Dosh.
11. It is said in the ancient texts that Pitru Dosh occurs if any ancestors up to the 7th generation on the father’s side and up to the 4th generation on the mother’s side have expired at an early age or have had an unnatural death.

Our ancestors are not only our family members or relatives, but also our teachers, mentors, role models, friends, and Gurus, who have contributed to our welfare and growth in this or previous life. This creates an implied obligation on us to respect them and their parental desires and calls for following good deeds. If by any chance this is not followed by anyone, it may embarrass the souls of the ancestors, which, in turn, becomes Pitru Dosh.

Rahu...ways to appease...3

12. Plant sandalwood tree and water it daily.

13. Do the remedies for the Moon.

14. Read religious text such as Puranas and Vedas.

15. Have your lunch and dinner in kitchen sitting on the floor.

16. Don't have non-veg food at all. Avoid alcohol.

17. Try to strengthen the master of house where Rahu resides.

18. Wear a white sandalwood necklace or tying pieces of sandalwood in a thin cloth around upper arm or neck is a good remedy for Rahu. (Saindhavi, one of the readers gave this, thanks!)

Rahu...ways to appease...2

6. If Ra is causing problems in the stomach, use fresh white sandal paste in your belly button.

7. If Ra combines with Sa, chant the Mahamrityunjay Mantra.

8. Develop a good rapport with your in laws. Try to be friends with foreigners.

9. Find a Guru & worship him.

10. Wear fragrances(specially sandal)and be well dressed.

11. Be methodical in your approach and keep things arranged in your life - at home and at workplace.

Rahu - for success in material world

Rahu this is another planet, which every body fears. And it becomes particularly bad when it is influenced by Sa. It is a shadow planet so it does not have its own existence. So, mostly it gives the fruits of the planet in whose house he sits. Rahu is the most powerful planet of all. It is twice as powerful as the second most powerful planet Sun. Rahu is capable of expanding the capabilities of its resident house several times. But it needs guidance of a benefic such as Ju. Ra is partially dormant when it sits with Ma. Ra is a highly materialistic planet and it gives material success to people when favorable. Ra represents your in laws, foreigners, and bugs in your life. Since most of the mortals are materialistic, we must keep Ra happy.
